The AIRTAD Catchup: YM Lab 3.1’s Journey to AIRTAD 2026

The AIRTAD Catchup: YM Lab 3.1’s Journey to AIRTAD 2026

Published on January 26th

Yamoransa Model Lab 3.1 in Akrokeri has steadily emerged as one of the most consistent and formidable contenders at the Annual Impact Roundtable Discussion & Robotics Competition (AIRTAD) over the years. That reputation was firmly cemented at AIRTAD 2025, when the team placed third in the SHS category, competing against some of Ghana’s most established schools, including Presbyterian Boys Senior High, Achimota School, Accra Academy, Accra Girls, as well as YM teams from The Gambia and Liberia.

For Lab 3.1, this achievement was validation.

Coming from the quiet town of Akrokeri in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, the students of Asare Bediako Senior High School entered the competition aware of the odds stacked against them. Yet through discipline, collaboration, and countless after-school hours spent in their Yamoransa Model Lab, they proved that innovation thrives not on privilege, but on possibility. When their name was announced among the winners, it marked a defining moment not only for the team but for the entire school community.

Their success at AIRTAD 2025 sparked a visible shift. The Lab transformed into a vibrant hub of curiosity and experimentation, with students increasingly confident in using technology as a tool to solve real community challenges. Teachers and facilitators also embraced digital learning more fully, integrating innovation into lessons and professional learning sessions. What began as a competition experience evolved into a culture of exploration and belief.

Today, the impact of that moment continues to unfold. Many of the students who represented Lab 3.1 at AIRTAD 2025 have since completed secondary school and moved on to tertiary institutions across Ghana, with some pursuing studies at the University of Mines and Technology, while others have gained admission into various universities and nursing training colleges. Their journeys reflect the broader influence of AIRTAD as a turning point that helped them imagine new futures for themselves.

As AIRTAD 2026 approaches, marking the 5th edition of the convening, Lab 3.1 is returning with renewed energy and ambition. This year, they are not only preparing to compete strongly once again, but are also developing an exciting innovation to be exhibited at the event.

While they are keeping the details under wraps for now, one thing is certain: Lab 3.1 is coming into AIRTAD 2026 ready to push boundaries and demonstrate once again what young innovators from underserved communities can achieve when given the right platform. From Akrokeri to the national stage, their journey continues to inspire, and we cannot wait to welcome YM Lab 3.1 back to AIRTAD 2026.
