The Helping Africa Foundation decided that the ICT Center in the Western Region should be located in the town of Bogosa and asked TECHAiDE to do a needs assessment to determine where the Center should be installed. Kafui Prebbie and his team, including Laurin Asiamah-Yeboah the Projects Officer traveled to the region in June of 2020. They met with the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Chief Executive, the Honorable Dr. Isaac Dasmani to brief him on the project. Dr. Dasmani was excited about the news and proceeded to look for an appropriate location. Together with the Municipal Director of Prestea Huni-Valley Educaation Directorate, Madam Mary Vida Kwofie, they determined that the best place for the Lab was in the center of town so that it would be accessible to as many as 18 schools.
In a remarkable display of support, the community came together to construct a new building to house the ICT Center. There are two 24 seat labs on the ground floor, and on the first floor there is a Maker Space and a conference room. The 48 computer stations will be installed with EDULab Gold low-voltage computers and will be wirelessly linked to ASANKA devices that have been loaded with the TECHAiDE Educational bundle that supports STEM learning skills. The Maker space includes three stations for Augemented/Virtual Reality, 3D printing and Robotics. The conference room includes the TECHAiDE Multimedia Teaching Tool, including a projector, screen and wireless connection. The Center has also been equipped with solar panels so that there would be no disruptions to the students in the event of a power failure.
The initial phase of the Center was officially dedicated on November 24th, 2020 in a ceremony with the Honorable Barbara Oteng Gyasi, Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni-Valley and also the Promoter of the Center, Nana Kwasi Sompreh, Chief of Bogoso Kokoase Traditional Area, Dr. Deborah Rose, President of the Helping Africa Foundation, Mr. Japhet Aryiku, Executive Director of the Helping Africa Foundation, and Mr. Kofui Prebbie, CEO of TECHAiDE. Once the second phase is completed in 2022, there will be another dedication ceremony.
