Clicking into confidence: Hamza’s digital journey from YM Lab 4

Published on October 14th

When I was a student at Sagnarigu Girls Model Junior High School, learning ICT was not easy. We didn’t have a computer lab, and I had never used the internet or even touched a computer. It was very challenging, and at times, I felt left behind, because I knew how important technology was becoming in the world.

Then came an answer to my quest! Everything changed for me when the Yamoransa Model Lab 4 was built in Tamale. For the first time, at 12 years old, I sat behind a computer and learned how to use it. I discovered the internet, gained new knowledge, and began to understand things I once thought were impossible for my reach and understanding. I also got the opportunity to train in robotics, something I had never imagined doing.

In 2022, I represented my lab at the Annual Impact Roundtable Discussion (AIRTAD) and Robotics Competition, where we won second place. That moment gave me so much confidence and showed me that I could achieve more than I thought was possible. I moved on to win the Presidential Award for the Best Female Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Student in the Northern Region.

At 14 years, I continued my education at Tamale Senior High School, where I studied General Science. The experience I had at Yamoransa Lab 4 stayed with me throughout my time in school. It sparked my interest in computers, helping me grow a passion for learning more about them.

Today, I am a Level 100 Civil Engineering student at the University of Energy and Natural Resources in the Western Region of Ghana. In my field, computers and software are very important, and the knowledge I first gained at Yamoransa Model  Lab 4 has made my learning journey smoother and more fulfilling.

To me, the Yamoransa Model Lab Program was more than just a place to learn about computers and robotics. It gave me hope, confidence, and a dream of discovery for the future. It showed me that no matter where you start, with the right support and opportunities, you can go far.
