A New Dawn for Education in Tempane: Commissioning of Yamoransa Model Lab 15 at Woriyanga

Published on September 16th

The 15th Yamoransa Model Lab was successfully dedicated on 6th September in Woriyanga, within the Tempane District, of the Upper West Region of Ghana. This lab adds to the growing network of the Yamoransa Model Labs across Ghana, The Gambia and Liberia.

Helping Africa Foundation (HAF), funders of the Yamoransa Model Lab Program, joined hands with Hon. Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, the Promoter of this lab, Minister of State for Public Sector Reforms and  Member of Parliament for Tempane Constituency, in dedicating this sophisticated ICT lab to the inhabitants of the Woriyanga community. The ultramodern multipurpose facility houses two 36-seater Edulab, fitted with modern technology, AR/VR tools, 3D printing capabilities, a Maker Space for robotics, a conference room, and gender and disability-friendly washrooms. YM Lab 15 stands as a center dedicated to transforming teaching and learning among students and teachers, giving them valuable access to bridging literacy gaps in STEAM education, promoting digital literacy in rural communities, fostering educational equity, and empowering young people with digital and technological skills; a right step to elevating future academic pursuits and careers.

The Yamoransa Model Lab 15 stands as one of its kind infrastructure in the Upper East Region, adding to the total of 16 Yamoransa Model Labs across each region in Ghana. The establishment of this facility highlights the strategic partnership between the Helping Africa Foundation, which funded the lab’s technological resources, and the building infrastructure, financed by the promoter, with project management and technological support from IMPLEMENTERS and TECHAiDE, respectively.

The commissioning ceremony also highlighted Hon. Akanvariba’s commitment to education and community development through additional contributions of educational scholarships worth GHS100,000 to support 50 brilliant but needy tertiary students, GHS 50,000 donation to the Tempane District Education Office to aid their operational activities, laptops to 3 visually impaired students, and GHS 43,200 for the reroofing of Kpikira Basic School after a rainstorm disaster.

The day marked a memorable celebration of a project whose construction began in 2024. This achievement demonstrates how partnerships can bridge the digital divide and empower rural communities with equal opportunities in education and technology across Ghana.

Special gratitude goes to the Helping Africa Foundation, IMPLEMENTERS, TECHAiDE, the Ghana Education Service, the Tempane District, and the Kusaug Traditional Council for their collective efforts in making this vision a reality.
