In an effort to efficiently utilise the resources of the lab, YM Lab 6 organised a one-day digital literacy training for basic school teachers in Peki-Avetile, located in the Volta Region of Ghana. This training was essential to equipping teachers with the skills needed for the effective integration of technology in their classrooms. The training, which was divided into 3 parts, was led by Mr. Desmond Eyram Dzitorwoko, Center Manager for YMLab 6.

The first part of the training was on basic lessons in computer hardware and software, and a demonstration of how to properly use a computer, navigate the internet, and utilise popular educational software, showcasing to the teachers how much digital tools can be used to enhance their teaching.
The next session on ‘Online Safety and Digital Citizenship’ enlightened participants on the need for teachers to model responsible digital behavior and teach students about online etiquette, cyberbullying, and digital footprint management. Teachers engaged in interactive discussions, sharing their own experiences and concerns. The last session gave participants the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities where they created digital content such as presentations, videos and interactive quizzes. They explored various educational platforms and apps, discovering new ways of engaging students and making learning fun. Teachers also shared innovative ideas on how they could engage their students in developing content on digital storytelling.
The feedback and full participation of teachers were apparent in the confidence they had gained in their digital literacy skills and in envisioning the possibilities of the school and its community. The teachers were now better prepared to navigate the digital world and guide their students in becoming digitally literate, responsible and creative individuals, translating these skills into the classrooms and giving students a memorable learning experience.
By the end of the day, the teachers’ assessment proved their deeper understanding of the new knowledge they had acquired. Knowing that these teachers left the training being empowered in their knowledge, ability and creativity, was a right step for them to diversify their teaching models for a better teaching and learning outcome.

Yamoransa Model Lab 6 looks forward to reaching more teachers and schools, and rallying together in promoting digital literacy and transforming the future of education in Peki-Avetile.
